Initially I was going to include this on my New Years Resolution newsletter, but it felt like it would be better off separate, which is why you’re getting two newsletters so close in publication. Also this is just for me & not serious.
Overall ins and outs according to me for 2024:
In for 2024
Styling your own clothes: that capsule wardrobe is built baby! But if you need new jeans because yours don’t fit anymore— know it’s better to buy a new (quality) pair than to beat yourself up every damn day for not fitting in them.
Being a mom whose acts like a Dad: kids with two dads are thriving. My kid has two dads, and that is how i’m living my life.
Going to Paris for the millionth time: going to new place is great, but have you ever re-visited an old favorite?!
Using a library card: LIBBY AUDIOBOOKS BITCH!! And if you’re in New York, why don’t you have a culture pass?
Reading for vibes: because even though I run a giant book club, I should still read about bitchy protagonists doing problematic things because that is what I like, ok?!
Cat eyeliner: It looks so good. I like the super fine liner from the Sephora collection.
Red lipstick: I guess my makeup inspiration really is Taylor Swift. I like Laura Mercier’s Profound Rouge.
Hair Ribbon (yes, still): It’s called sustainability.
Boating: Whenever you can!! Taking the ferry counts.
Visiting a museum just for one exhibit: I’m projecting because this is all my baby will commit to, but there is something very chic about visiting a museum because you have one thing you want to see!
Adult summer camp: BBBC’s is in July— you must apply.
Jeopardy: I swear it makes you smarter.
Sharing celebrity news in the group chat: normal gossip is the best way to stay in touch with old friends.
Visiting a new state: I’m just putting this on here because i’m visiting New Orleans for the first time and want to cross this off. But seriously, our country is big!!
Low-stakes bucket list items: A cuisine you’ve always wanted to try? A nearby tourist attraction you have never been to? Babe, go! I want to go to Lake George.
A gym membership with babysitting: My cost analysis for Equinox has changed dramatically…
Letterboxd: Reviewing movies has felt so productive & it’s finally been the thing to make me a Movie Person (a goal I have half-heartedly wanted to pursue for years.)
Book clubs: Online book clubs, book clubs with a dress code, book clubs that don’t discuss the book…. all book clubs.
Cashmere: I’m seeing “quiet luxury” is out for a lot of people, but classic dressing is never out of style.
Out for 2024
Impulse purchases: If you actually needed something, you’d have been agonizing about it for a hot minute.
Planes ✈️ : Let’s road trip instead. Except to Paris, obviously.
Gelato: My truth is the ice cream is better.
Paying to go to well funded (local) museums: Use your culture pass! Find out what days have free admission!
Exclusively reading one genre: Do you, but I need to read less romance.
Love is Blind: The peak has been hit and it’s all downhill from here.
Sharing celebrity news on IG stories: text a friend instead. It’s a fun way to catch up!
FOMO (just do it… or don’t.)
Polyester: and buying fast fashion……….PLEASE!
Only listening to Taylor Swift: You need some variety in your life, Mackenzie.
Pretending Joe Biden is a good president: even if he’s marginally better than the other guy.
What’s in & out for you?!
Oh no!! I was with you up until the last point. I’d take Biden’s occasional gaffes over the former president’s hate, corruption, and division every day. Record unemployment and economic growth didn’t happen on accident, and the former president could only dream of Biden’s economic success.
